Summary

From the creators of Homeland and American Horror Story comes Fugitive X, the chilling sequel to Revolution 19.

After the robot revolution, anyone who escaped capture by the bots made their homes in secret freeposts in the wilderness outside the bot-controlled Cities. Siblings Nick, Kevin, and Cass never would have dreamed of venturing into the Cities, but when their parents are kidnapped, they have no choice but to follow them.

Not everything goes as planned, though, and the siblings find themselves fleeing the city without their parents. And then the three are separated, and for the first time, they are on their own. Cass is brought in for reprogramming by the bots; Nick joins up with rebel soldiers; and Kevin meets the man who is responsible for the robot technology--and their only chance at defeating the robots once and for all.

As the three fight to take down the bots, they must prepare for a looming war between bots and humans that will decide the fate of the human world forever.

Horn Book Review

Nick, Kevin, and Cass (Revolution 19) escape from the robot city but become separated. With the human and robot war closer than ever, the siblings must survive, find each other, and save the human race. While the book does little to further the series' plot line, Rosenblum smoothly handles multiple narrators, offering readers a full picture of the dangerous world. (c) Copyright 2014. Can Kevin, Nick and Cass survive apart in a robot-controlled world? Fresh from an unsuccessful attempt to free their parents from the robot-controlled City (Revolution 19, 2013), 13-year-old technology expert Kevin, his adopted older sister, Cass, and his older brother, Nick, set out to find a robot-free Freepost like the one where they grew up, as well as their liberated City friends, Lexi and Farryn. After a disagreement, Kevin is abducted by robots who seem friendly. Chasing them, Cass suffers an accident that brings her to the brink of death. Nick can only watch as City robots take her away. Still trying desperately to find Kevin, Nick accepts the help of enigmatic Erica, but bots dog their every step. Kevin discovers an enclave where robots and humans work together; Cass is brainwashed and returned to her birth family; and Nick joins the rebels as he continues his search for his siblings. Will the trio be able to reunite and find their friends? Picking up where the first left off, Rosenblum's second could stand alone, but it's best read as a sequel. There's no great character development or innovative plotting, but good action sequences and an interesting future milieu make this fine pleasure reading. Booklist Review

This follow-up to Revolution 19 (2013) goes the way of sequels like Veronica Roth's Insurgent (2012) and Lauren Oliver's Pandemonium (2012) by following our heroes out of their Big Brother worlds and into scrappy rebel camps. Rosenblum quickly splits up our siblings: Kevin is taken to the safe haven of the Island, where bots are actually used for good; Nick joins a Freepost only for it to be attacked; and Cass undergoes brainwashing at the hands of the nefarious City. This is by the numbers (newcomers are mistrusted, unexpected lineages revealed, and love triangles begun), but it is satisfyingly executed and comes with plenty of adolescent snark: Kiss my fleshy human butt. --Kraus, Daniel Copyright 2010 Booklist
