Gr. 1-2. Happy holidays are ensured now that Oliver and Amanda Pig are back. Five chapters deal with the days leading up to Christmas and the big event itself: all kinds of secrets are floating around the house, and not to be outdone, Amanda comes up with one of her own; the family picks a Christmas tree, though not the one they had in mind; fat cookies and ample stockings play a role in the holiday preparations; on Christmas, Oliver learns that having 22 toys is not the most important thing about the day. With the same gentle humor that pervaded the other books in the series, this warm story has both the simplicity and plotting that will appeal to young readers.
