School Library Journal Review
When Amanda Pig goes on an errand, she is forced to drag her younger sister April along. It's a good thing, too, for Amanda can't remember what she was supposed to buy. April reins in her older sister's impulse-buying tendencies and saves the day by recalling that mother may have wanted flowers or flour. They return with both, and Santa's note says how much he enjoyed the cookies and the flowers. de Groat's paintings of these two childlike pig sisters catch emotions perfectly; the added ``pig angels'' and snow pig statues, as well as the slight but humorous story, will cause a few chuckles. Horn Book Review
Amanda Pig jumps at the chance to go to the store for her mother - in case Santa hasn't noticed how good she's been. Her little sister, April, goes also, even though 'April did not need to show Santa how good she was. April was always good.' The illustrations are detailed and colorful in this funny, refreshing story of the season. From HORN BOOK 1990, (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review
Ages 4-7. On Christmas Eve, Amanda Pig is hoping for a Snuggly Baby Pig doll but doubts that she's been good enough. So when Mrs. Pig asks her and her sister, April, to run to the store, she's happy to be helpful. On the way, however, there's a park with a snowy hill, and after much sledding and making of snow angels, the sisters arrive at the grocery store minus their grocery list. Was it flour or flowers that Mama wanted? They get both, and Santa is happy to receive cookies and a bouquet. Fans of Amanda & April [BKL Je 1 86] will enjoy the sisters' holiday antics. Pryor shows her usual insight into both sibling relationships and the way young minds work. De Groat's bright, humorous illustrations feature equal measures of humor and charm. ~--Leone McDermott
