Description:
Amanda Katherine "Kate" Huron was born in Avon, Indiana on September 15, 1848 to Benjamin Abbott (1811 - 1888) and Katharine (Harding) Huron (1815 - 1902). Kate taught at Central Normal College in Danville, IN from 1879 - 1889 and was Vice President of the college from 1889 - 1894. Kate married David B. Gilbert (1866 - 1926) in 1892; he was 18 years her junior. She taught at Fremont (Nebraska) Normal College (now Midland Lutheran College) from 1900 - 1919. Kate died March 9, 1940 at the Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, Indiana.
