The cheery boy from A Squiggly Story (2016) is back in another writing adventure. Despite the title, he's progressed from kindergarten (sitting on mats, learning letters, and writing in squiggles) to first grade (sitting in desks, learning words, and writing in complete sentences). His new teacher, Mr. Lopez, tells the class they will be writing autobiographies, and the boy decides to call his The Story of Me by Me. But where does he begin? With help once again from his older sister, he learns more writing tips, such as editing, making lists, and finding connections, while Mr. Lopez and his classmates offer assistance with brainstorming, first drafts, and peer review. Fans of the first book will appreciate classmate Alia's continued plug for vampires. Loosely drawn cartoon illustrations reflect the boy's ongoing writing struggles and eventual success. Young readers see numerous examples of the boy's writing in notebook pages, complete with errors, strikeouts, and revisions. Another fine story for learning the craft of writing.
