This land deed states that John W. Smith purchased 80 acres from Francis R. Houghton and his wife Rachael A. in Washington Township, Hendricks County for the sum of $3,200.00. The purchase of this land made Smith the neighbor of Benjamin A. Huron. The property was located on the north side of E. US 36 between State Road 267 at approximately Beechwood Centre Road (2013). The document was signed on December 28, 1868 and recorded on June 22, 1869.
