William Gladden Reed was born January 30, 1841 in Marion County, Indiana to Jediah Reed (1798 -1878) and Catherine “Katie” Negley (1802 – 1879). He married Sarah Ann Larsh (1842 – 1905) in 1873. They had a farm that spanned both sides of Dan Jones Road (Co Rd 800 East) between Co Rd 100 North and US Hwy 36 in Avon, Indiana and had four children: Millie F. Reed (1874 – 1976), William Everett Reed (1877 – 1954), Ada Florence Reed Barker (1886 – 1933) and Lester Arlo Reed (1890 – 1964)
